Ask which film and which role
Qnity’s general specifications distinguish Kapton film types and thicknesses. Identify the exact film if the product requires it, then state whether it is the base dielectric, a coverlay constituent, or reinforcement. Expand a film brand into a circuit specification

Do not order a circuit as tape
Film, adhesive-coated insulation, copper-clad laminate, and completed circuit are separate items. A tape description does not identify copper adhesion, etched conductor geometry, plated interconnects, or terminal finish. Write the stack in physical order and name the source of each constituent. Use the stackup drawing method to expose assumptions that a shorthand brand note might conceal.
Control the reason for the brand requirement
If Kapton is mandatory because of an existing qualification or customer specification, retain the exact grade and documentation requirement. If it is shorthand for an amber flexible film, replace that ambiguity with functional requirements and an approved-material review. Record who can approve a substitution and which assembled-product checks would need repeating. This avoids both unnecessary brand locking and an uncontrolled replacement based only on appearance.

- Document allowed alternatives and approval conditions.

Are Kapton and polyimide the same kind of name?
No. Polyimide is a material-family term; Kapton identifies branded film products with their own grades and specifications.
Does Kapton specify the copper laminate?
No. Add the laminate product or a reviewed construction that states copper, dielectric, and any adhesive layers.
