Align identity across the package

Use one assembly revision and identify the compatible bare-board revision. Provide a BOM with exact component identities, quantity, references, approved alternatives, and do-not-populate entries. Coordinate the fabrication package so the assembly provider does not receive a newer placement file with an older board. Treat alternative parts as reviewed substitutions, especially for mating interfaces.

Make orientation and support visible

Provide placement data, an assembly drawing, pin-one or polarity references, and clear top/bottom conventions. State the placement origin and units. Add support and access requirements, including fixtures, reinforcement, panel handling, and any sequence-dependent installation. A coordinate file does not describe how to hold a flexible substrate during printing, placement, or inspection.

Define process and final verification

Include applicable material handling, joining, cleaning, programming, and test instructions where they are part of the agreed scope. Reference the approved assembly profile workflow rather than inventing a generic thermal recipe. Identify test points, supported probing, pass criteria, and required records. Separate bare-board electrical testing from assembled functional testing in the order.

Before you release the design

  • Cross-check BOM references with placement and assembly drawing.
  • Identify the exact mating connector variants.
  • Include fixture ownership and release requirements if applicable.
  • State whether programming and functional test are included.

Watch points

  • A complete component list does not establish a repeatable flex assembly process.

Practical questions

Is a placement file enough to establish component rotation?

Verify the file convention against the assembly drawing and actual package references. Tool and receiving-system conventions need an explicit cross-check.

Should every vendor receive the native CAD project?

Agree the required format and information scope. A controlled neutral package can be sufficient, provided it communicates all construction, placement, process, and acceptance requirements.
