Collect all process constraints

List the laminate, coverlay, reinforcement adhesive, surface finish, components, and soldering materials in the assembly. Ask the responsible suppliers for applicable process limits and handling instructions. Coordinate moisture preparation with these requirements. Resolve conflicts before setting an oven recipe; the most visible component is not necessarily the only temperature-sensitive item.

Design support and access

Define how the circuit is held during printing, placement, transport, and heating. Review fixture contact, thermal influence, release, and the stability of component areas. The placement review should include the resulting support geometry. Document whether temporary support or permanent reinforcement is present during profiling, because the tested setup should represent the actual process.

Measure and retain the profile

Profile representative assemblies at meaningful locations and compare the recorded exposure with the agreed process requirements. Inspect solder joints, dimensional condition, and material interfaces afterward. Retain fixture and construction revisions with the result. If material, support, panel layout, or component population changes substantially, determine which parts of the process review must be repeated.

Before you release the design

  • Confirm the complete construction before process setup.
  • Check fixture and panel arrangements against the production sequence.
  • Retain measured profiles with assembly and fixture revisions.
  • Review repair or repeated thermal exposures separately.

Watch points

  • An oven setpoint is not the temperature history of every joint.
  • A successful bare-board heat exposure does not qualify the assembled product.

Practical questions

Can I reuse a rigid-board oven recipe?

It can only be a starting proposal. Measure the representative flex assembly with its real support and population, then compare the result with the applicable material and joining requirements.

Should rework follow the same profile as initial assembly?

Develop the relevant repair procedure with the assembly team. Local heating, previous exposure, access, and neighboring materials may create different conditions.
