Flexible circuit product example showing conductor routing and contact geometry
Product construction example. Materials, dimensions and use conditions are defined by the project drawing.

Translate the program specification into circuit inputs

List relevant customer documents and revisions, operating conditions, interfaces and required verification. Use the IPC requirements guide to distinguish design guidance from a contracted performance or acceptance requirement. Do not infer a qualification class or approval from the word aerospace.

If specific material characteristics such as outgassing are required, identify the test conditions and acceptance evidence specified by the program. A material-family application statement is not proof that the exact finished assembly satisfies those requirements.

Review installed loads and access

Provide mounting, vibration and thermal conditions as owner-defined inputs. Identify installation folds, connector mating loads and any moving instrument mechanism. The mechanical-model workflow helps combine regional thickness, component height and the installed envelope.

Consider inspection and replacement access in the instrument, including how a circuit is removed without stressing adjacent hardware. Document whether field replacement is permitted and which acceptance checks must follow servicing.

Keep evidence linked to the released configuration

Agree material identification, lot records, inspection reports and change notification with the manufacturing recipient. Qualification belongs to the responsible program and its approved process. Trace every accepted deviation into the release package or a controlled disposition. This site does not claim an aerospace approval, qualified factory process or flight heritage for its content or an unspecified circuit.

Before you release the design

  • Supply program documents rather than broad application labels.
  • Identify required material properties and test evidence.
  • Define installation and service load paths.
  • Agree traceability and change-approval responsibilities.

Watch points

  • A supplier datasheet or standards citation cannot establish program approval of the completed instrument.

Practical questions

Does citing an IPC document establish compliance?

No. Agree the applicable revision, requirements, acceptance and evidence. A document name alone does not verify a build.

Can a previously used construction be reused automatically?

Assess the new program’s geometry, environment, interfaces and required evidence. Prior use is context, not automatic qualification.
