Normalize the bill of materials and procurement scope
Provide approved manufacturer part numbers, quantities, alternatives and customer-supplied items. Use the assembly file checklist to keep BOM, placement and drawing revisions aligned. Ask how sourcing assumptions, excess components and substitutions are reflected in the proposal rather than leaving them implicit.

Include the handling that flex requires

Review component placement and connector orientation for accessible assembly. A small design adjustment may simplify support or inspection, but it must preserve electrical function and installed geometry. Ask for a specific reviewed alternative instead of removing support requirements simply to lower the quoted number.
Price the same completed state
Define whether delivery includes programming, functional testing, separation, forming or final packing. State acceptance criteria and who provides fixtures or software. Compare costs at the same completed stage. A less expensive populated board can still require substantial work before it becomes an accepted assembly ready for installation.

Can component count predict assembly price?
It is only one input. Package types, procurement, support, inspection, programming, test and quantity also shape the scope and quote.
Should functional testing be optional?
The product requirements determine necessary acceptance. If quotations show alternatives, keep their test coverage explicit so the cost difference is not mistaken for equivalent delivery.
