Describe the joint and process access

Identify the support and circuit surfaces, bonded area, load direction, and accessible tooling faces. Record whether attachment comes before soldering, cleaning, or other thermal exposure. Ask how position will be maintained during bonding. The adhesive-system guide helps turn this description into a grade-specific material review.

Compare realistic production routes

For a pressure-sensitive proposal, ask about surface preparation, application pressure, dwell, storage, and relevant environmental data. For a heat-processed proposal, ask about the required process window and compatibility with the rest of the circuit. These are review questions, not interchangeable process recipes. Include fixtures, release materials, and inspection access when comparing quoted attachment routes.

Control the functional edges

Show adhesive coverage, clearance to exposed contacts, and its termination near moving areas. Specify the finished reinforced thickness if it affects mating or enclosure fit. Coordinate alignment tolerances with the chosen process. Test the bonded assembly under the actual mechanical and thermal sequence that could reveal movement, lifting, or contamination at a critical interface.

Before you release the design

  • Identify the adhesive product.
  • Show bond coverage and keepouts.
  • Confirm the attachment sequence.
  • Define inspection after relevant environmental exposure.

Watch points

  • A generic 'PSA' note omits the adhesive grade and application conditions needed to review the joint.

Practical questions

Can a pressure-sensitive bond be removable?

Do not assume it. If removability is required, specify the service operation and assess the actual adhesive, surfaces, and damage limits.

Should the strongest adhesive be chosen?

Choose a system that meets the joint and process requirements. Strength data alone does not resolve alignment, thickness, environmental behavior, or rework needs.
