Locate the real bend start
Show the support boundary, connector body, enclosure contact, and intended bend zone on one view. An installer may naturally bend at the nearest hard edge unless the route or fixture controls the motion. Review strain-relief planning to decide how the product guides the free span and keeps load away from sensitive joints.
Placement review around a support edge
| Feature | Define | Review |
|---|---|---|
| Connector | Mating loads and operator access | Support coverage and orientation |
| Bend zone | Installed path and bend definition | Free length and transition |
| Circuit features | Pads, holes and conductor routes | Local stress and clearance review |
| Enclosure | Clamps, screws and nearby surfaces | Load transfer and interference |
Coordinate the boundary with features
Check traces, holes, pads, coverlay openings, and component joints near the support edge. Ask which features need clearance or a revised location in the proposed construction. Avoid importing a universal setback from an unrelated example. The bend planning guide records the local geometry and duty needed for a meaningful review.
Use the support in the assembly simulation
Review installation and removal in sequence, including tool access and where hands or fixtures grip the circuit. A support that looks suitable in the final position can obstruct the insertion path. Prototype the intended handling with the actual reinforcement and attachment. Inspect both the supported interface and adjacent free span after the agreed operations, because a relocated bending point can change the failure location.
Before you release the design
- Draw support and bend boundaries together.
- Review assembly before the final position.
- Mark prohibited grip or bend areas if needed.
- Test the transition with representative hardware.
Watch points
- Extending a stiffener can reduce available bending length even when the circuit outline stays unchanged.
Practical questions
Should bending start exactly at the stiffener edge?
Define and review the actual transition. Do not let a support edge become an accidental bend tool without product-specific evaluation.
Can one placement work for installation and service?
It may, but check both sequences. Removal, connector operation, or later maintenance can load the region differently from initial assembly.
